Once upon a time a man was going with his donkey down a hill-road. He was following the donkey with a rod in his hand. The donkey jogged down carefully over some distance. But then suddenly it left the track and strayed aside. Its owner tried his best to drive it back to the track but the wilful beast didn’t obey. As a result, it reached the edge of a cliff that overlooked a deep gorge.
The owner felt worried to see the danger for the donkey. He was at a loss to understand what to do. So, he caught hold of its tail when it was just about to leap over the edge of the cliff.
The man heaved a lot to check the donkey from moving ahead but all in vain. It didn’t budge even an inch backwards. So, the man let it go saying, “All right ; go your way to meet with your death. What else can I do ?”

Once a wolf was drinking water at the head of a stream. Suddenly he caught sight of a little lamb. It was drinking water at a distance downstream.
Having seen the lamb, the wolf licked his chops and decided to eat it up. So, he walked towards the lamb. While going, he kept thinking of some excuse for his action. Getting near the lamb, the wolf looked at him with blood-shot eyes and thundered, “How dare you spoil the water for me ?”
“How can I do that, sir ? The water is flowing from you to me,” replied the lamb trembling all over in fear.
The wolf had no words to say. But then suddenly he burst out, “Why did you abuse me last year ?”
“How is it possible, sir ? I was not even born then,” retorted the lamb meekly.
“Well, if it wasn’t you, it must have been your father.” Saying so, the wolf fell upon the lamb and tore it to pieces.

Once upon a time, there live a Holy Man. He was poor and depended on alms. He would eat a little food and keep the rest in a begging bowl, hung high up on a peg. A Mouse had seen this, and used to jump up and help himself to the food.

Someday, a friend of the Holy Man visited him. After they had eaten, they started chatting. The Holy Man could not concentrate and kept tapping on the ground with a stick to scare the Mouse away.

Fiend asked, “What are you doing? Why don’t you listen to me, properly?” “Excuse me!” said the Holy Man. “It’s just that dreadful Mouse! He eats away whatever food I manage to save.” Wondering how the Mouse could jump so high, the friend said, “The Mouse must have put aside a lot of food, which must give him extraordinary energy to jump so high.”

They then, dug and found the hoard of food that the Mouse had gathered and took it away. The Mouse returned and found his hoard of food missing, and was very sad. He lost all interest in stealing food from the Holy Man’s bowl.

One time a messenger was to carry a few important instructions as of the king to the commander of the army, in the battle-field. As he was going to start, he found that one nail was missing from the shoe of the horse. He did not care for that. As he wanted to save time, he set off at once. On the way, the second nail from the shoes went off, but the messenger continued his journey. At last, all the nails slipped off and the shoe fell down. Now the horse could run no longer. It was getting late. The messenger was much worried. He tried to make his horse run faster and faster. Soon the horse was tired. It fell down and was dead. The rider was also wounded. The destination was not far. He began to run on foot. But it was too late. When he reached the battle-field, their army had been defeated by the enemy. So in saving a few minutes, the messenger lost many hours.

There were three friends who wanted to get rich. One day they started on a journey in search of a chance to make a lot of money. They had to pass through a forest. In a strange way, some time later, they decided to divide the gold equally among themselves.

The guest reported the theft to his host. The Sheikh asked his servants about the theft and they denied having stolen it. As evening began to approach, Sheikh Moosa got his donkey saddled and went out for a ride.

In the evening he came with a wooden board and laced it in his tent. Then he called all his servants and asked them to go one by one into the tent and to place his hand on the board. He told them that the board was a magic board and it would turn the hand of the thief black. After all the servants had gone inside the tent and come out the Sheikh made them stand in a row and ordered them to Stretch out their hands. He smelled the hands of all the servants and then grabbed one of them by the collar and ordered him to produce the stolen hag. The servant began to weep and trembling with fear brought the bag.

In the evening the guest asked his host how he was able to find out the culprit. The Sheikh replied that he had rubbed the board with a fragrant lotion. Every one touched the hoard hut the culprit did not. So the hand of the culprit did not give out the smell of the lotion and lie Wits caught.

One day all the animals of a forest had a gathering to choose their king. The monkey danced with such gay abandon there that everyone felt delighted. So, his name was proposed for kingship. Everyone voted for him and he was made king.
But the fox couldn’t tolerate the monkey’s rise to the high position. He felt jealous of him and decided to humiliate him. One day the fox, roaming in search of food, saw a trap laid by some hunter. It had a piece of meat in it as a bait. The fox was sensible enough to keep away from the trap. But he was sure that the monkey wouldn’t. So, he approached the king and brought him to the trap.
“Here is a dainty piece of meat, sir. I, as a true subject of yours, didn’t touch it. So, enjoy it Your Honour !”
As the monkey extended his hand for the meat, it was caught in the trap. The fox laughed aloud and said, “Kingship needs a lot of wisdom, sir.”

Once, a Hunter lived in a forest. One morning, he set out hunting, hoping to find a deer.
Soon, he saw a Deer and hunted him down. The Hunter slung him over his shoulder and merrily started home.
On the way, he came across a fat Pig. He dropped the Deer on the ground and shot the Pig with an arrow.
Pig gave a fearful grunt and charged at the Hunter. He hit the Hunter hard in the stomach and killed him instantly. Then the wounded Pig also fell down dead.
Through the fight, a Snake that was passing by got trampled and died.
All this time, a Jackal was sitting behind a tree.
When he saw the Hunter, Deer, Pig and Snake, all lying dead, he was overjoyed and said to himself, “Ah! What luck! It looks as though I am going to have a feast, but I shall eat only a little at a time so it will last me longer.”
Then, the Jackal dragged each body to his cave, one by one. He had a feast for a long time!

Once there lived a lion in a jungle. One day while he was asleep a small mouse began to run over him. It was not too long when the lion was caught in a net by some hunters. The lion groaned and growled. The mouse heard the lion and came to see what was the matter. He saw the lion caught in a net. He came near him, gnawed the net and set the lion free. The lion thanked it.

Short Story on "A Foolish Crow"

One fine morning, a fat and foolish crow sat near the kitchen of a rich man’s house. He was waiting for an opportunity to steal some food. As soon as the cook came out to get something, the crow sneaked in and picked up a big piece of fried meat in his beak. He flew away to a tree in the nearby forest.
By chance, a lean and hungry fox was silting near that tree. He saw the fat and foolish crow with a big piece of meat in his beak. He could not just sit quiet and sec the crow cat the meat with relish. So he devised a cunning plan to cheat him.
He went towards the tree, and, addressing the COW in a very pleasant and flattering voice, said, “Good morning, dear Mr. Crow.” The crow did not answer. The lox said again, “How do you do, my dear friend? How happy I feel to sec you!” Still the crow did not greet him. He kept silent and thought, How can I speak if open my beak, the meat will fall down.”
But the fox was not disappointed. He spoke once again in a honeyed tone. ‘What is the matter with you? Why don’t you answer me? Have you forgotten your old admirer. How often I have heard you sing in your melodious voice will you please sing me a song ? I know you will not disappoint an old friend. Please Mr. Crow !“
The crow was fat and foolish; and the fox was very cunning. The crow forgot the piece of meat in hi beak. He was beside himself with joy. He opened his beak and began to caw. The piece of meat fell down right into the mouth of the fox who was Waiting for it.

Short Story on "A Farmer and His Daughter"

Farmer had a daughter. She was incredibly ingenious. Once her father gave her a bucket full of milk. She was to take it to the market for selling milk. On the way, her imagination started working. She thought there would be a great rush of buyers. Milk would be sold at once and it would bring a lot of money. With that money, she said, to herself, her father would start would start some business. She felt that after a few years, her father would become very rich. Many offers for her marriage would come to him. She tossed her head and said that she would refuse them all like that. As she tossed her head, the bucket fell down and milk was all spilt on the ground. She was very sad but nothing could be done then.

Short Story on "A Dog and his Reflection"

Once upon a time a dog was very hungry he went to a butcher’s shop and soon stole a big piece of meat. He ran to eat it. He wanted to enjoy that piece of meat alone. In a short while, he reached a stream. The dog began to cross the bridge. In the middle of the bridge, he stopped for a while and saw his own reflection into the stream. He took it for another dog with a larger piece of meat in his mouth.

Dog was very hungry. He, at once, decided to snatch the large piece of meat from the dog in the water. He barked at the dog in the water but as soon as soon he opened his mouth, his own piece of meat fell into the water. This made him angrier. He jumped into the water to tight with that dog. As he did so, the reflection in the water disappeared. He could find neither the dog nor his own piece of meat. So he had to go home hungry. Of course, you can jump down and drink your fill. At this, the goat leapt down. The fox put his feet on the horns of the goat and sprang to the top of the well.

Friend goat said the fox. If you had brain in your head, you would not have leapt down into the well to have a drink, when you do not know the way out of it?

Short Story on "A Bullet-Proof Coat"

Once upon a time a clever man come to chief of an army and said, “My lord! I have invented this bullet-proof coat. It will be a boon for soldiers, for it will save many a precious life. The chief examined the coat very carefully. But he failed to find any peculiarity in it. “You may put it on, said he to the inventor, and let me see for myself, if it really stops a bullet. The chief, then, went in to fetch his gun. But, on his return, he found the inventor missing His coat was good for others but not for his own self.
